If Earth were a moon of Jupiter... Real photos. True scale. In this imagined scenario, I placed Earth in the position of Ganymede, Jupiter’s largest moon. Jupiter is colossal. Over 1,000 Earths would fit inside it. Its diameter is over 11 times that of Earth. I took this photo of Jupiter with my telescope. The photo of Earth is from 1977, the first photo of Earth and our Moon in a single photograph, taken by NASAs Voyager 1.

12P/Pons-Brooks, a Halley-type comet with a 71-yea

12P/Pons-Brooks, a Halley-type comet with a 71-year orbit around the sun. There are ancient records of comets that are suspected of having been apparitions of 12P/Pons–Brooks. Officially, it was first observed at Marseilles Observatory in 1812. It's among the brightest periodic comets, with historical records from 1385 and 1457 from both Chinese and European sources. The nucleus of this comet is estimated at 30 km. The perihelion passage (closest approach to the sun) is on 21 April 2024 and it will make its closest approach to Earth (at 1.55 AU) on June 2, 2024, expected to reach an apparent magnitude of 4.5. I photographed the comet with a tracker, dslr and a Samyang 135mm lens, stacking a bunch of images and cropping to enhance detail. #Astrophotography #CometPonsBrooks #CelestialHistory #SkyGazing #SpaceExploration

I accidentally photographed the landing site of Ap

I accidentally photographed the landing site of Apollo 15 a few nights ago. I marked it with a yellow +. I was really excited when I noticed and checked. Apollo 15 launched on July 26, 1971, targeting the lunar equator for its scientific significance, focusing on geological studies and the Moon's history. This mission introduced the lunar roving vehicle (picture from wikipedia), expanding exploration capabilities. Astronauts conducted comprehensive experiments and collected about 77 kilograms of lunar material. Additionally, they left a plaque in memory of astronauts and cosmonauts who lost their lives in the advancement of space exploration (final picture from a great Apollo 15 video from NASA YouTube channel).

The Pleiades (M45) aka the Seven Sisters, is an op

The Pleiades (M45) aka the Seven Sisters, is an open star cluster containing middle-aged, hot B-type stars. At 444 million light-years away, it's one of the nearest star clusters to Earth and is visible with the naked eye in the night sky. Currently left of the bright Jupiter.

In Greek mythology, the Pleiades were the seven daughters of the titan Atlas and the sea-nymph Pleione. According to the myth, they were transformed into stars to save them from the pursuit of Orion, the giant huntsman.

Luckily, one can still admire the Milky Way and the Northern sky, but it is a shame that so much energy is wasted into space for no reason. This is a solvable problem, and solving it could make places like this truly dark, so that we could enjoy the skies like our ancestors did.
